The Ambassador on Room 507

Earlier this year, I was excited to trace the original source of the Room 507 myth in relation to Dahmer and the Ambassador Hotel.

Most people familiar with the case have heard the rumour that Room 507 was the site of Steve Tuomi’s death in November ’87 – yet Dahmer never mentioned any specific room number, the hotel kept no guest records prior to 1995, no trial coverage or police files reference it, and extensive refurbishments in 2005 completely rearranged the Ambassador layout from Dahmer’s era. The myth persisted purely through repetition, not evidence, after it first appeared on Tumblr in 2014.

Looking through old emails, I found the messages exchanged with a hotel spokesperson clarifying this and thought some would be worth sharing here, as screencaps weren’t included in the original write-up. Their anonymity has been preserved, as requested at the time.

Hopefully this helps counter some of the misinformation still circulating!

In response to a video which claimed a general manager had encouraged one Dahmer-enthusiast to check out 507, and being asked what the hotel’s ‘official line’ was on the story:

Although, despite what the spokesperson said, some staff members (particularly younger ones) may occassionally humor guest requests for ‘the murder room’ — further reinforcing the myth for those already committed to it.
